  • Michael helped me buy a home

He was the seller's agent when my son bought a house in Livonia. I have bought and sold nearly a dozen houses in my life and worked with twice as many real estate agents. He was by far the worst agent we have ever had dealings with. The house was advertised for sale in the conventional way (no bids, dated negotiations, etc). My son put an offer $10k below asking price and it was accepted. However, this agent kept seeking other bidders and trying to get us into a bidding war with somebody..anybody, and he succeeded. My son was forced to up his offer to full asking price even though the sellers were perfectly satisfied with the original offer. It's an underhanded, unscrupulous tactic that is only legal in New York state. Every other state has outlawed the practice. Also, we tried to get inspections done but was brushed off with basically we have other bidders, take it or leave it. We finally met with the owners prior to closing and they filled us in on all the details we needed to know with the house. They were wonderful about everything, by the way. It's very old house (160 yo) and we did have concerns that this agent couldn't care less about. Our own agent and ourselves ended up doing the work (telephoning, etc) that this jerk was supposed to do. To top it off, he gave my son as a house warming gift a basket of worthless samples (little soaps, shampoo, etc). Completely tacky. They were promptly tossed in the garbage, which perfectly describes the quality of service from this character. Find someone...anyone else for your real estate agent.
