How is it that some houses seem to speak to us and remain lodged in our memory? What qualities do such dwellings possess? The answers to these are different for each individual. Yet there are identifiable characteristics that make a house feel "just right". Some houses can appear aloof, even unapproachable. But others reach out to us, they seem like wise, comforting friends. They seem to say, "Welcome, come on in. You will be comfortable, warm, safe, and secure here." The most satisfying home has personality. It calls out to us and draws us in through our senses and emotions. They are the places where we can truly be ourselves. Identifying the characteristics of such places is an essential aspect for designing and creating a home.
