It\u2019s personal to those on the team who\u2019ve experienced letdowns in real estate. It\u2019s personal to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nar.realtor\/research-and-statistics\/quick-real-estate-statistics\">over 5 million people<\/a> who sell a home in any given year. And if you\u2019re one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nar.realtor\/newsroom\/homeownership-part-of-american-dream-housing-costs-deterrent-for-non-owners\">75% of non-homeowners<\/a> who see homeownership as part of the American Dream \u2014 it\u2019s personal to you.<\/p>\n<p>Consider this:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rather than hire the most objectively qualified agent for their needs, <a href=\"https:\/\/themortgagereports.com\/50309\/home-sellers-do-less-than-3-hours-of-research\">4 out of 5 sellers<\/a> hire one of the first two agents they happen to meet.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On average it takes 69 days, or over two months, to sell a home.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On average it takes <a href=\"https:\/\/static.elliemae.com\/pdf\/origination-insight-reports\/EM_OIR_JULY2019.pdf\">42 days to close on a loan<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/magazine.realtor\/daily-news\/2019\/08\/07\/the-top-delays-on-the-road-to-the-closing-table\">20% of recent settlements<\/a> were delayed while 4% were cancelled altogether between April and June of 2019. 35% of those delays were caused by issues related to buyer financing. That\u2019s 2.1 million home buyers and sellers impacted every year with the process completely failing for nearly 800,000 of them.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Between market prep, taxes, fees, and commissions, it costs <a href=\"https:\/\/www.homelight.com\/blog\/sell-house-for-cash-net-proceeds\/\">nearly $21,000 to sell a home in 2019<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Buyers pay 2%-5% in closing costs, including lender fees which are typically <a href=\"https:\/\/helloeave.com\/faq\/\">1%-3% of the loan&#8217;s value on a conventional mortgage<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Those statistics are terrifying to read and even more terrifying to live through. I know, because it happened to me. We almost lost the home of our dreams, the tens of thousands of dollars we\u2019d saved for our down payment, and our sanity because someone else made a promise they couldn\u2019t keep \u2014 and far too many others have too.<\/p>\n<p>The biggest transaction of our lives came together on a hail mary. Some people aren\u2019t so lucky.<\/p>\n<h2>That\u2019s why I started HomeLight.<\/h2>\n<p>Since our launch in 2012, we\u2019ve solved one of the challenges buyers and sellers face: finding the perfect real estate agent for their specific needs. We\u2019ll use this capital to create the future of real estate and become a full-service end-to-end real estate platform that delivers on the long overdue promise of a transaction people can <i>actually<\/i> feel good about.<\/p>\n<h2>What that means at HomeLight:<\/h2>\n<h3>Real estate is human.<\/h3>\n<p>While other companies in the industry spend millions to eliminate the real estate agent, HomeLight fundamentally believes that\u2019s the wrong approach.
