The national average commission for a sale transaction was 5.57% in 2024<\/a>, and a recent survey by HomeLight<\/a> confirms that most seller commissions fall within the 2.5% to 3% range. The same survey of top agents reveals a similar range for buyer\u2019s agents.<\/p>\n

With the changes to the commission rules and regulations implemented in 2024<\/a> that aimed to decouple the listing agent and buyer\u2019s agent commissions, a seller may be on the hook for around 2.5% to 6% commission, depending on whether the seller offers to pay the buyer\u2019s agent fee<\/a> on top of the listing agent\u2019s fee.<\/p>\n

At this price, a 2.5% commission on the transaction would amount to $10,153 or $24,366 at a 6% commission.<\/p>\n
