1. Browse real estate portals<\/h2>\n

If you\u2019re looking to buy a home, real estate portals are the obvious choice \u2014 but they offer rental listings as well. Websites like Zillow<\/a>, Trulia<\/a> (which is managed by Zillow Rental Manager), and Realtor.com<\/a> have rental sections where you can browse rental listings in your area. These sites pull listings from the multiple listing service (MLS)<\/a>, and landlords can list on them directly.<\/p>\n

2. Zero in on rent-specific portals<\/h2>\n

There are plenty of sites out there that are specifically for rentals \u2014 Rent.com<\/a> (which also lists on Apartment Guide<\/a> and Rentals.com<\/a>), Apartments.com<\/a>, Zumper<\/a>, and HotPads<\/a> are just a few.<\/p>\n

Certain platforms, like Avail<\/a> (part of the Realtor.com network) offer landlords the option to list on multiple portals free or charge a per-unit fee for additional listing options.<\/p>\n

When you use a rent-specific portal, it\u2019s likely that \u2014 as with real estate sites \u2014 you\u2019ll see a lot of the same listings. So choosing one comes down to which one is most user-friendly for you.<\/p>\n

3. Tap into local social media<\/h2>\n

If you have access to Nextdoor<\/a>, you can explore the local area and search for rental opportunities. It\u2019s an invite-only neighborhood portal, so if you aren\u2019t already a resident of the neighborhood where you\u2019d like to move, then you\u2019ll have to get access through a current resident. The \u201creal estate\u201d tab may have details on homes for rent, especially homes with local landlords.<\/p>\n

People often list properties they have available for rent in local buy\/sell groups, including Facebook Marketplace, which has a Property Rentals<\/a> section dedicated to apartments, condos, houses, and townhouses for rent. Facebook groups also can serve as a valuable resource, but exercise caution regarding potential scams or posts that seem suspicious, particularly those that appear “too good to be true.”<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re active on X (formerly Twitter)<\/a> or Instagram<\/a> and have local followers, you can post saying you\u2019re looking for a place to rent and see if it kicks anything up. Reddit<\/a> is another place to find local groups, which can be a goldmine of information for available rentals.<\/p>\n
