According to Sheerin, Michigan\u2019s housing market remains competitive, especially for buyers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe have really tight inventory right now. Being this time of year \u2014 the spring market \u2014 there’s a lot going on, but it’s still a seller’s market. It’s been like that for a few years here,\u201d he says.<\/span><\/p>\n

Properties in Michigan generally sell in about <\/span>37 days<\/span><\/a> after listing. This time frame is referred to in the real estate industry as <\/span>days on market<\/span><\/a> (DOM), which measures the time span from when a home hits the market to the signing of a contract. For comparison, the nationwide median DOM is around <\/span>51 days<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The median listing price for homes in Michigan currently stands near <\/span>$299,900<\/span><\/a>, which has remained relatively unchanged from last year.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWest Michigan, compared to national averages, is quite affordable, relatively speaking, to the rest of the country. So it’s good for first-time homebuyers. A lot of people are moving here from other areas because they can obtain a livable home in the $200,000s,\u201d says Sheerin.<\/span><\/p>\n

So what should sellers take away from these conditions? While it\u2019s a strong market, careful pricing and strong presentation are still important. Your listing needs to stand out to draw the right attention and offers.<\/span><\/p>\n

When is the best time to sell a house in Michigan?<\/b><\/h2>\n

Although higher interest rates and limited inventory are shaping the market, Michigan generally experiences cyclical patterns, with sales activity rising during the spring and summer. This makes the period from April to July the best time to sell your home to maximize returns. If your priority is a quick sale, the best window to sell a house in Michigan begins in May.<\/span><\/p>\n

Since it generally takes around 37 days to secure a buyer and about <\/span>40 days<\/span><\/a> for a buyer\u2019s loan to finalize, it\u2019s a good idea to list your property two or three months ahead of the prime selling period.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIf you look at the numbers \u2014 well, they say numbers don\u2019t lie \u2014 then yes, it\u2019s easy to say \u2018spring market,\u2019 but statistically speaking in years past, the most active time tends to fall in mid-April through Memorial Day, right at the start of summer,\u201d says Sheerin.<\/span><\/p>\n
