  • Brenda and I connected, but did no business

My wife was 9 months pregnant when we found the ideal home to raise our family in. Brenda was the listing agent responsible for selling the house, a foreclosure, for the bank. Given that we loved the property so much, we submitted an offer ($50k over asking) immediately after touring the home. We followed the instructions that Brenda had given us (be pre-qualified with the selling bank, offer a rehab loan, etc). After confirming that our documents were received, Brenda refused to give an update or offer any substantive communication to my realtor for nearly 2 weeks. Finally, after those 2 weeks, she disclosed that the seller had accepted an offer for less money because the other buyer had put more money down. Losing a bid is unfortunate, but understandable. However, the house became available once again after the initial buyer's purchase was terminated. We immediately submitted another offer and set out to have a pre-inspection performed on the house. During the inspection, a woman from next door approached us stating that she had already bought the house and was moving in later that week. It turns out that she was the initial buyer and had not been informed that her deal was terminated. Despite this odd occurrence, we proceeded with the inspection and our offer. This time, however, Brenda cut off all contact with my realtor for a week after our offer was submitted. She did not respond to phone calls or email and was not found in her office. After a week of radio silence, Brenda finally came forward to state that the seller had, once again, accepted another offer. Brenda is the quintessential used car salesperson of real estate. She doesn't seem to act on anything that won't benefit her directly. Through my two experiences with her as a listing agent, I was absolutely shocked by the unprofessional conduct and lack of communication. Whether you are a buyer or a seller, I would strongly discourage using Brenda as your agent. Conducting business in this way may be lucrative in the short term, but screwing with people is not sustainable in the long run.
