Chi is a gentleman who owns part business in a home renovation company. We purchased a home in Deerfield from Chi. Two days after moving in, we had water in the basement, despite it being "fixed" by his contractor. Chi responded to our request to cover the cost of professional work, although he asked us to negotiate a lower price! Ultimately, it was fixed by a professional company with a lifetime guarantee (which we did not have with Chi) and we now have a good result with the water issue. However, we've had several MAJOR expenses since moving in. The air conditioner was non functional, despite being labeled as "present and working " at the home. We had to replace it. Chimney: We received a partial payment ($5,000 of $13,000) to fix the non safe chimney at the home-- thank goodness we had a chimney inspection. The attorney for Chi argued that because all chimneys in the neighborhood are old, that despite this being unsafe, they should not be responsible. The back yard is nothing but mud; the serious drainage problems in the yard were not disclosed to us at any time during the transaction, inspection, or home walk through. There is (still) debris left in the back yard and the contractors left two completely full trash cans on the property that we had to take care of. We had to have some electrical work done only to find out that the work done by Chi's contractor/company does not meet code; and yes, it was "passed" by the village but if and when we sell, we will not meet code. The contractors covered paneling with drywall instead of removing the paneling and doing it properly. Chi is a very nice man; but I would advise him to obtain a contractor that does things properly. I would not buy another house from him and would encourage buyers to be very careful. Chi and his company purchased this home back in September 2021 and would have known about all of these issues but chose simply to prime everything white and list the property.
