Irene Shaffer

To this day, Irene Shaffer remembers the moment in 1970 when she came over Davidson Mesa on US 36 and saw Boulder, Colorado for the first time. It was a beautiful city snuggled up against a geologic formation referred to by the natives as "the Flatirons." She was born and raised in Wyoming and had just graduated from the University of Wyoming with a degree in Special and Elementary Education with a minor in Psychology. She was looking for a job and a community to live in. A funny thing happened once Irene arrived. She was overwhelmed by the beauty of Boulder's landscape and the active lifestyle of the area. Before she knew it Chief Niwot's curse had taken over. Chief Niwot was an Arapahoe Indian Chief who was friendly to the settlers.
