Horses have always been a big part of my life. Growing up in Washington State near the Puget Sound I spent as much time as possible around horses. My Grandmother helped me and my two older brothers buy our first horse, matching our cash contribution obtained from picking and selling raspberries. That horse became part the fabric of my life; it provided transportation for my first real job, delivering newspapers, fueled my competitive spirit by offering me the opportunity to compete in 4H and local rodeos, became the basis for a lifetime concern for animals and their care, and was the foundation for my sense of responsibility. While animals and particularly horses have been a lifetime love, nursing school and beginning my career kept me from that love for a few years, although a full-time job in a veterinary clinic during nursing school offered some satisfaction.
