  • Kay helped me buy a home

Kay was the sellers agent on a home that I purchased. The home was being sold by a relocation company (Paragon Relocation Resources, Inc.). The relocation company mandates that a hold harmless agreement be signed by the buyer, saying that the buyer is not able to sue the relocation company, the owner of the house, or the listing real estate agent for anything that is found after the sale. This is not typically done with sales that do not use a relocation company. The hold harmless agreement was not disclosed to me until several days before the closing. Kay indicated to me at closing that she knew the relocation company would require the hold harmless to be signed, but never told me about it until several days before closing. When I explained to her that this should have been disclosed with the initial listing and not at the end of the process, she did not seem to think it was a problem. BOTTOM LINE - If you are looking to buy a house from Kay, ask immediately if it is being sold be a relocation company. If it is, ask what will need to be signed. Be prepared for many changes throughout the process. Some of these may be driven by the relocation company, but Kay was not up front at all about any of these.
