- Kerry listed, but didn't sell, my home
We had a friend work with Kerry that had an OK experience. So we decided to give her a shot. She toted that not enough agents know what it takes to sell homes when the market isn’t hot. I did not think she would be talking about herself. Our home was listed and from the get the things she promised like laminated placards of the features of the home were never done. Our photos in our listing just did not showcase the flow and space of the home. When asking her to delete certain photos from the listing like our pantry and unfinished basement pictures, she asked me to explain why. I explain I had been concerned with no showings booked in 10 days that online real estate articles said clutter was worse than dirt as well as family and friends wondering why they were part of our listing. I always felt like I had to defend myself like we weren’t on the same team. I had asked my friends if they had agents they trusted that I could talk to and to ask them what is wrong in my situation and to gain perspective and other strategies to adapt in this market and vent about the lack of support from our agent. I received some marketing help from these very kind strangers and brought it back to Kerry. Kerry was immediately defensive saying “who is in your ear?” And “well I can’t just go out and force someone to buy your house!” When I would make suggestions like looking at the MLS and reaching out to agents that had clients with search criteria similar to our house Or my husbands suggestion of reaching out to lenders with clients approved with our price of our home she acted like it would be impossible when these other agents saying this is their standard. After only 5 days on active market and a week of coming soon and no showings booked, Kerry advised us that we should decrease the price. Which perplexed us. Had she not done her market research? As she told us we were priced competitively and could have listed more. We held strong and advised her that even with a $25k decrease which was her recommendation, we would likely be in this same situation if she too did not adapt to this new market. My husband had already relocated to Texas and I was alone with 3 kids all 3 and under. She asked for us to stay someplace so she could have full access for for showings. The entire time we were not there, there was not a single showing booked… she completely disrupted our lives and we bent and bent to make her job easier with no adjustment on her part. We eventually parted ways. She blocked me on Facebook. Pestered my new agent what we were under contract for (which mind you we had a dozen showings the first weekend with our new agent) and was eventually found out that Kerry had been telling another agent when we were working with her that had a client “somewhat interested” to just offer us lower since she knew what our bottom was. She did not have our best interest at heart and is just a very unworkable person. Once we relisted, I had many people from our neighborhood messaging and texting me wondering what happened and telling me stories about Kerry and these people felt so bad that they didn’t talk to us sooner. I was sick to my stomach every day working with Kerry. Thank god for my other agent and her support… i Don’t think we could have gone on without her.
