Our experience has been that it's best to work with someone who specializes and even lives in the area you're buying, and we're really pleased to have met and worked with Lorette to buy our home on The Hill. We only wanted to buy in this neighborhood, and we lucked out in meeting Lorette at her seller's open house in Old Town when we stepped out of our desired area. We had gone to a couple open houses on The Hill and met with those sellers' agents, and one was nice but not knowledgable enough about The Hill and the other was very off-putting; Lorette was friendly, easy-going, and very knowledgable. While I understand agents are going to look for other clients at open houses, we started to feel a bit like prey and with the off-putting agent, like we were going to miss out on opportunities to buy a great home if we didn't work with him and get access to his sellers. It's her life.It all starts with a visit to your home. There, she'll asses the value of your place, suggest some inexpensive updates, and even offer some staging ideas. Depending on the state of your home (ours was looking pretty dated), your property could be ready for listing in as early as a week. Or in our case, as late as a month.As you might assume, it's a lot easier to sell a home when no one is living in it. Unfortunately, we didn't have that option, so Lorette had to work around our busy schedules. That meant hiding all of our personal belongings at a moment's notice (for those sudden showing requests), and actually making our bed every day, like civilised people.All the while, we were in the process of figuring out where we wanted to buy our next home.
