We moved here when I was nine. My parents wanted to settle in a town that was central to all kinds of activities but still had a small town feel. Close to skiing without living in the snow and close to San Francisco without the congestion. Auburn fit the bill for those and a few other reasons (including the Mexican food!) Although I left Auburn for stints in Santa Barbara, the Bay Area and Truckee, I've been happily back in Auburn for years, and I consider it "home." I appreciate it for all the reasons it appealed to my parents back in the 70's. We have everything we need so close to home: recreation, shopping, restaurants, nature, and yet we enjoy all it with less traffic, pollution, noise and inconvenience than our larger-city neighbors experience.
