      When we first met with Meryl, we were very excited to work with her. She had us very convinced that we would be kept up to date on communication regularly. Additionally, she told us that her commission rate was negotiable. Unfortunately, though, neither of those things were the case. At the time of signing with her, after telling us that her rate was negotiable, she told us that because we found her through Homelight and that a portion of her commission had to go to Homelight, that her rate was a set number and not negotiable. As far as communication, it was like pulling teeth trying to get responses from her throughout the process and we would often have to wait a full day before getting a response from her. We were also very excited that she seemed to know the area and real estate process very well however, when it came down to negotiations with buyers she was not very helpful. The tax rate on our house (and in our area) was a deal breaker with several potential buyers. We feel like there wasn’t enough done explaining the reasons and benefits of this to buyers. We, the sellers, finally came up with the idea of grieving our taxes to reduce the tax rate. There were just several things that we expected our real estate “expert” to be more helpful at that we get like we were left to do on our own. When all was said and done, we feel like her participation in the process boiled down to putting the house on MLS, somewhat managing showings (because of COVID she wasn’t even allowed to be present so showings were managed just as much by us as they were by her) and collecting her commission check. We had to constantly ask her to check on things with the buyers and with the buyer’s attorney. When we had to move out of state before closing she didn’t offer to assist with any of the real estate process when we were gone. Luckily we still had friends in the area that could check on the house for use and manage a few things. We do not feel like she earned her full commission rate.
