- Nancy listed and sold my home
She was the typical real estate agent who just wanted to close the deal without really thinking of the client. During the selling of our house: among other things, a) she did not show up during the appraisal of our house and therefore the appraisal value suffered. B) She did not have enough experience in every step of the process. I hired her as a favor to her since we knew her, and really, without knowing how much experience she had, so technically this is my fault. I was practically drafting the words that would go into the contract. The writing on the listing is also so bad I tried to improve it but it never showed up on the listing description. C) She did not negotiate the best price for selling our house; and therefore we were pushed around by the buyer. I have a suspicion also that one of the days, she had asked me the lowest price I would be okay with and then told the buyer's agent this exact price and so lo and behold, that was their offer. During our buying process for our new house after we had sold our house at a significant loss, among other things: a) we did everything and all the negotiating ourselves. It came to a point when we didn't really need her and we just accepted that she will make money off our buying process without having to work much. We kind of gave up on her abilities and resigned to our mistake of choosing her. B) One time, in discussions with sellers during the time we were looking at a possible house we liked, there was an argument on a point and she actually sided with the seller! Amazing! We were like, whose side is she on?? C) After the sale, she could not care less about us and did not even remember to send a Thank You card. Worst of all, she bad-mouths her old clients to her current clients so I wouldn't be surprised if she had made negative comments about us to her newer clients. She told us all sorts of negative stories about her former clients whom we knew and ridiculed them to us. I thought this is a no-no, crosses the line and makes her untrustworthy. It scares me to think of what horror stories about us she is now telling others. She did not excel in any of the areas you specified here. In fairness, she did have good people skills and had patience and empathy. But it ends there. Hire her if you want to take a big loss in the sale of your home. Unfortunately, she is, in my opinion, plain and simple, incompetent.
