She was hired by Appalachian State University (ASU) in 1984 as their head women’s basketball coach, after serving in that same role at UNC Pembroke the previous five years. Following her first year as head coach at ASU, the NCAA named the ASU Mountaineers the most-improved women’s basketball team in the country.
