- Sarah helped me buy a home
**WARNING** I was not actually a buyer, but this is applicable to buyers because I rented from Sarah and understand how she conducts herself. As a landlord Sarah was not a burden until it came time to move out and handle the security deposit reimbursement for my roommates and myself. Sarah, for reasons I can only imagine were established for financial gain, clung to narrative that fixing plumbing issues in the bathroom were our responsibility (this type of maintenance is legally not the responsibility of the tenant in the state of Pennsylvania). This was a problem because the plumbing in this early 1900's house had potential to drain our entire security deposit (one months rent). After several phone calls with Sarah (where I had to repeatedly ask her to stop raising her voice) and attempts to compromise with her, including scheduling with a plumber familiar with the property, it was clear to me that Sarah had no intention of reimbursing us with our full and deserved portion of the security deposit. Moving forward I decided to protect myself by pursuing legal advice. I reached out to the township and continued conversations with the local plumber, who had offered legal advice in previous conversations. In doing so I learned that the property (30 East 3rd St, Media, Pa 19063) had a history of plumping problems and water damage, and that Sarah had taken the most minimal and off the books path to fix said problems in the past. After learning that Sarah had in fact deducted from our security deposit to pay for plumbing costs, I confronted Sarah warning that I may take legal action. Sarah showed true professionalism by telling me "it would cost more for me to hire a lawyer than I would get back in my security deposit". I hope that this gives you a peak under the curtain of Sarah's ethics as a realtor/landlord. I would use extreme caution with dealing with her and make sure everything is in writing if you do so. Get a background check of the property if buying.
