Sunny Wong is dishonest, unprofessional and does not properly communicate. Sunny was the property manager for a townhome my family rented from August 2018 - April 2022. We were promised the backyard would be completed when we signed the lease and maintenance of the front yard would be done. The backyard was not completed during our stay there, we actually invested in making the backyard look nice so that we could enjoy the space. The front yard was maintained twice by Sunny’s maintenance man. We had to maintain the front yard at our own cost to comply with the homeowner association rules. The few maintenance requests we had were not dealt with in a timely manner. We saw Sunny twice in almost 4 years and she would text during non business hours, usually between 7 pm - 4 am when we did hear from her. There was a leak in the dishwasher that short circuited the dishwasher and damaged the flooring in July 2021. Sunny had me buy a dishwasher that sat in the kitchen for two weeks before her overpriced handy man could install it. They could not commit to a time for the replacement and he last minute showed up in the middle of my birthday party. He only installed the dishwasher, he did not fix the leak and told us he didn’t do floors. Sunny never sent anyone to look at the floors and the floors were never fixed. In February of 2022, Sunny sent me a text message near midnight telling me we needed to move because the owner wanted to occupy the unit. Her message wasn’t that clear but that was the gist of it. She did the same thing to our next door neighbors as well. We asked what date we had to move by. She stated May. We asked to stay until June to allow our son to finish the school year. We were told no because the owner was coming in May and wanted ti live there. We had difficulty finding a place in the current rental market but eventually found a place. I asked if there was a specific date in May we needed to be out by, she was noncommittal on a date and said whenever. I sent Sunny our move out date in March and she took 3 weeks to acknowledge. She sent me a text in May asking what happened to the rent and I had to remind her she told us we had to move. We had been moved out for 3 weeks at that point. She took almost 4 weeks to do the walk through to get the keys back. She found two things during the walk through and we expected our deposit back minus a small amount for the agreed upon repairs. She did not return our deposit in a timely manner. She stated we needed to wait because she hadn’t had time to have the handyman over. I advised her on California law and the return of the deposit. She told me to wait, cut off communication then texted me a day later AND stated there was over $4k in damages - she found more items not discussed or agreed upon on the walk through. She expected us to pay for a complete renovation of the townhome which we refused to do. She does not understand what normal wear and tear are. We never came to an agreement. She was nasty and disrespectful in communications and never made a real effort to come to an agreement. She texted me asking for our new address to return just under a third of our deposit. I advised her she can Zelle me just like I used Zelle to pay her. Sunny stated the owner was in China and didn’t have Zelle. I didn’t hear from Sunny for several more weeks. She then stated she needed my address, I reminded her of Zelle. She stated she needed my bank account number. I told her that’s not how Zelle works and she has all the information needed to Zelle. Eventually, Sunny texted that the owner’s friend could do cash or Zelle. The owner NEVER moved in. Recently I found that the units were listed for rent with an increase of $500 per month. She never discussed a rental increase with us as an option. We paid our rent on time, we were not a nuisance - all of our neighbors were upset that we had to move because we were such good neighbors - and we honored our end of the agreement. Our next door neighbors who also rented from Sunny had a similar experience. She did meet with the neighbors and return their deposit in cash but never gave us that option. Sunny treated us differently and in the end poorly due to our not being an Asian family. Sunny’s dishonesty, lack of communication, and failure to uphold her duties in our agreement cost my family over $20k in expenses, mental anguish, stress and wasted time/energy. Sunny Wong is unprofessional, untrustworthy and not worthy of your business.
