I am very green when it comes to real estate. Last year, I was transferred by my work out to sunny California. The biggest factor when considering the move was what I would do with my house in DeKalb. I built the home in 2007 and invested heavily in quality materials like hardwood floors, granite counter-tops, an extra game/theater room, etc. The issue I was confronted with was that I'd still have to make the mortgage payment in addition to my new rent payment in L.A., which is not cheap by any means. Finally in January 2011, when it seemed like I'd be in California longer than I thought, I placed my house up for sale. I sought the help of a local realtor who had many years of experience along with a very strong sales record. I met with her very briefly and was sold on her previous sales success and her numerous listings. I figured, "somebody with this much sales experience is just what I need...". That could not be further from the truth! My experience with that realtor, who shall remain nameless, was substandard in every way imaginable. I was the one reaching out to her for updates and her voice mail was always full, which prevented me from leaving messages. Finally, after six months with no success and only two phone calls from that realtor I fired her. I reached out to a local loan officer who has worked and lived in DeKalb for about 30 years and sought advice on a realtor. She was quick to clarify that experience doesn't always translate into success. This is when she recommended Travis. She mentioned that what some realtors have in experience, they lack in follow-up. She also mentioned that when she first spoke to Travis on the phone he was out prospecting for homes in Genoa, which she hadn't seen from realtors in a while. I decided to follow her advice and hired Travis. Travis wasn't afraid to tell me my house was listed $50,000 over the market value, and this allowed my to change gears. Instead of taking a $50,000 loss, we decided it was best to rent it out. Within 3 days of listing my home Travis found me a tenant, saving me a TON of money in mortgage payments! He also found me a foreclosed condo to purchase as an investment property. I purchased the condo for less than half of the last sale price in 2008. I now own two homes and am saving almost $2,000 per month. I apologize for the lengthy email, but I wanted to capture what a great impact Travis has made for me and my family. Travis and Evangeline are not only great realtors they are great people. My wife and I are completely new to buying property and homeownership and they made the process enjoyable and easy. They both were honest. When we walked into a house they pointed out every point of concern with the house. They also pointed out what was a concern of the areas we were looking at. About twenty houses into our search we could not decide between a few houses. Travis and Evangeline walked through each house with us and weighed the pluses and minuses of each house. They showed us each house multiple times and did not show a bit of frustration with our nervousness of purchasing a house. It had been a very long time since I'd gone through the process of buying a home and Travis was a huge help. He first linked me to homes online that were in my price range, with pictorial tours and complete information listed: price, taxes, room sizes, amenities, etc. - the program even had a mortgage calculator.
