He began Peak Properties, co-founding with Derek Weber, with a team concept in mind from the start, which is a departure from the traditional model of most realtors that grow a team out of necessity. The usual arc sees an enterprising realtor gain success, build a team to accommodate the increase in demand and function as a realtor’s ad hoc fiefdom. “We think of ourselves more as an agent co-op,” Alex says. “Our agents have their own buy-in, and I don’t make every decision. Our clients dictate the majority of our decisions, and we support our agents in service of those decisions. That’s what we bring to the table.” Success has followed, and one of the most satisfying aspects of this success is that it has earned the Peak Properties Group a good reputation among its peers. A reputation is an interesting thing because there always exists the reputation you want and the reputation you have. It’s when those become one and the same that success follows, which it has for Peak and for Alex. Although, that’s not to say it came easy. “Most small businesses fail in the first year,” Alex explains. “Our expectation in the first year of our business was to put our heads down, focus on quality and educate ourselves on everything possible.” And Alex has used this as his model as he’s constantly seeking to educate himself on new and better ways of doing business.
