As a kid, the family vacations were almost always in Kansas City, where we enjoyed Chiefs and Royals games, Worlds of Fun, and all of the other activities that are only available in a bigger city. At the age of 18, I began a career at the Hallmark Cards factory in Topeka, KS where I worked for 4 years. When I turned 21, I attended a real estate investing seminar and immediately decided to buy rental properties, and sell real estate on the side. The next year, I transferred to Hallmark's headquarters in downtown Kansas City. I realized that my career opportunities would be much greater with Hallmark and my real estate business could also be much better in my favorite vacation city. My sideline business grew steadily through the years and after 20 years I decided to devote myself to selling real estate full time. I have to laugh when I think about how much easier it is selling real estate today than it was back in 1982, when interest rates were 18%. I have three children, Brooke, Brady and Blake. I also have two adorable grandsons, Max (5), Briggs (3) and a granddaughter, Finley (1). My favorite activities involve spending time with my grandkids and kids. I am also a huge Chiefs fan! As a "Red Coater" for the team, I volunteer by working at various Chiefs events and charitable causes in the community. I never miss a Chiefs home game and take in at least one road game per year. I still have a huge passion for helping people realize their home buying and selling dreams. There's nothing like the feeling of high fives and hugs when sharing in the excitement of helping people achieve their home ownership dreams! It's all about making a positive difference in the lives of others!

Tom and Susan Matthews meet in Southern California over 47 years ago. They were high school sweethearts and married in 1976. They started their family right away and raised 3 children in California. Tom worked in the family Redwood planter box business in charge of production overseeing 100 employees. With 3 children heavily involved in sports, cheerleading and school events, Susan was a stay at home mom. After the sale of the family business Tom and Susan moved the family to Kansas in 1995. It was a wonderful and familiar move for them since Susan is a Kansas native and spending many summers here on family vacations. Now they have 5 grandchildren and everyone lives in the Johnson County area. Here are a couple of interesting and fun facts about Tom and Susan. In 1974 Tom was kidnapped by Patty Hearst. He quickly had his face on all the major newspapers, magazines and nightly news stations. In 2009 Tom and Susan were flown to New York and interviewed by Dateline NBC for the 35th anniversary of the kidnapping. Tom and Susan were also on the Newlywed Game in 1977. They taped their show the day Elvis Presley died. No they didn’t win but their prize of a years’ worth of Turtle Wax and Rice O Roni sure came in handy. After about 10 years in Kansas and working 3 different jobs, Tom and Susan found Real Estate. After working very hard to get their business off the ground, they found success in the business. They are continually in the top 10 teams in the office and truly enjoy helping people to find their dream home. In December of 2013 they were very lucky in finding Shari Schmidt as a new Team Member. Shari is working as a Buyers Agent. Melinda Lauver is the newest team member, joining us in June 2019. She is our Administrative assistant, and will soon also be a Buyers Agent! They will tell you that one of the best feelings in Real Estate is when their clients face lights up when they see the sold sign in their yard! They look forward to that moment with you.
