Emily Calcote
- Emily never responded to my request
⭐️ 1 Star — Extremely Poor Communication and Unprofessional Experience Our experience with Emily Calcote was extremely disappointing and, quite honestly, one of the most frustrating experiences we have had dealing with a realtor. We contacted Emily about a rental property in Irvine, and she was immediately available to show us the home. We toured it, absolutely loved the property, and were genuinely excited about the possibility of renting it. The home, location, space, and proximity to the hockey rink near by were exactly what we were looking for. At the showing, we were completely upfront that we are self-employed. Emily told us she would speak with the homeowner about his situation and find out what documentation the homeowner would require. She also asked us to send our email so she can send us what is required, which he did, but she never sent anything to his email. After we left, we sent the requested information. Then the communication essentially disappeared. Emily stopped responding to our texts and calls. We continued reaching out because we were genuinely interested in the property and were waiting for an answer she had told us she would get for us. We weren't demanding anything unreasonable; we simply wanted to know whether the homeowner was interested and what documentation was needed. What was particularly concerning was that when we contacted Emily from a different phone number without identifying ourselves, she responded very quickly. That made the situation even more frustrating because it showed us that she was actively responding to new inquiries while our calls and messages were going unanswered. When we eventually confronted the situation, Emily explained that the homeowner was uncomfortable with our income because we are self-employed. Again, we want to be very clear: we have no issue with a homeowner deciding not to rent to someone. A homeowner is entitled to review an applicant's income and documentation and make their own decision. Our issue is how the situation was handled. We were willing to provide whatever documentation was necessary and even offered to pay an entire year of rent upfront to give the homeowner additional reassurance. But Emily never responded to that message either. If the answer was simply, "The homeowner isn't comfortable moving forward," that would have been disappointing, but we would have accepted it. Instead, we spent days calling and texting with no response while having no idea what was happening. A professional realtor should be able to communicate a yes, a no, or even a "we're still waiting to hear back." Ignoring clients and potential renters for days is not acceptable communication. What makes this experience even more disappointing is that Emily initially made everything seem very easy and responsive. She was quick to arrange the showing when she wanted our business, but once we expressed that we are self-employed, the communication changed completely. We are not leaving this review because we didn't get the house. We are leaving it because of how we were treated during the process. People looking for a realtor deserve someone who communicates with them honestly and consistently, even when the answer isn't what they want to hear. We would have much rather received a straightforward rejection than be ignored and left wondering what was happening.
