My great grandfather settled in San Benito County in 1873 coming from the Basque region of the Pyrenees Mountains between France and Spain. Owning a small ranch outside Tres Pinos, my grandfather was a rancher, businessman, real estate broker, County Supervisor and wore many other hats! My mother was a real estate broker and moved us back to Hollister in 1979 because , as she put it, "San Jose is filling up and people will start moving here". She was right! Even with the high interest rates of 1981 and 1982, they are still coming here for the way of life and comfortable climate that is offered here. I quit high school in my Junior year to start college (because my father had passed away when I was young, I was a "Reagonomics phase out" for social security benefits).
