  • Renee never responded to my request

I feel compelled to share my experience regarding the lack of professionalism exhibited by Renee Cerwin. I recently had the displeasure of working with her during the sale of my home. My first encounter with Renee occurred on May 27 (Memorial day weekend) when she requested a showing of my home at around 10 pm. I attempted to graciously grant her request despite the gross inconvenience at such an hour and left the home, sitting in my vehicle in my night clothes for over an hour with my dogs. When it had been well over an hour and a half, I returned to the house to find Ms. Cerwin with her clients, acutely intoxicated and loitering at the house with complete disregard for the hour and the secondary inconvenience. The following day, my neighbors called me to let me know that “some realtor was having a party at [your] house” the night before. I responded that I was aware of it and felt compelled to apologize for Ms Cerwins behavior. During the next several showings, Ms Cerwin loitered in my home with the sellers for HOURS on multiple occasions (which was uncomfortable for me while working out of town). I became even more concerned with the security of my home when Ms. Cerwin emailed my realtor to notify him that she had “stolen” a pen from my desk drawer (which contained my check books and personal financial statements), although there was a pen sitting directly on my desk already. She then went a step further and suggested that she hoped I could get the pen back at closing (further demonstrating her complete lack of insight into her inappropriate behavior). At this point, I no longer felt comfortable with Ms. Cerwin entering my home and requested that all future showings be supervised. Ms. Cerwins unprofessional behavior and poor interpersonal skills led to prolonged negotiations on the sale of my home. Interactions with her became so distasteful that, at one point, I nearly took a lower offer on my home just to avoid additional interactions with her. Eventually, despite being constantly harassed while I was traveling abroad, I did reluctantly accept the offer from her buyers (which turned out to be a HUGE mistake). During the inspection process, my simple repeated requests for notification of inspectors, contractors or decorators coming to my home went completely disregarded. I am a single woman living independently, so strange men spontaneously showing up in my backyard time and again made me incredibly uncomfortable. Again, Ms. Cerwin completely disregarded this request and even suggested that I hadn’t made my home available to her clients (when she had previously loitered in my home for 5-6 hours at a time on numerous occasions with her clients, decorators, etc). After improperly completing the lender paperwork for the transfer of money from her commission that she hoped to gift to her clients to encourage the completion of the sale of my home, my realtor and I became concerned that the sale of the home would not go on the record on the Friday of the closing as anticipated (Ms Cerwin attempted to include me in her little transaction, which I would imagine is completely inappropriate and something she should already know). We had clearly advised her that the keys could NOT be transferred until the sale went on record (even if that meant waiting until the following Monday). Again, despite her verbal acknowledgement of this agreement, she went ahead and gave the buyers the keys to my home, which she took off of my counter during the final walk through. The home is still my liability until the sale is on record and, as per her usual, her unprofessional behavior is completely unacceptable. Ms Cerwins' behavior throughout this entire process was nothing but unprofessional to a level that I have never experienced before. She made the sale of my home a horrible experience from start to finish. I am unsure whether her repeated blunders throughout this process were a reflection of her ignorance, a reflection of her complete disregard for others, or just a blatant disregard of the legal implications of her actions (it’s likely a combination of all three). Nevertheless, the sale of my home was a miserable experience due to Ms. Cerwins involvement and I intend to share these experiences, as widely as possible in hopes that others might avoid a similar experience.
