Susan Dempsey-Hughes

I spent my childhood on the beaches of Florida. In 1989 I finished high school and moved west to Colorado in search on adventure and education and have been here ever since. While in college, I spent my summers in Salida and Buena Vista as a river guide and kayak instructor. After graduating from college I graveled to Central America to lead adventure travel trips; where I met my husband Zack. When it came time to put down roots I decided on Salida and bought my first house. It wasn’t a hard decision. Where else can you find a great community, incredible mountains and endless outdoor recreation? I have lived in many mountain towns around the state like Crested Butte, Breckenridge and Durango, but found Salida the absolute perfect spot and have called it home now for over 20 years.
