As a little girl growing up, I can remember the stories being told around the dinner table at family gatherings about how my dad uplifted the status of our kin with being the first of eight siblings to purchase a home. Those moments were so joyful as they inspired an elevated level of pride and hope to my loved ones who came up from humble beginnings. At the time, my sister and I did not fully understand why my dad's home purchase was such a big deal and why it was so important to our family.
