About Ruben

Ruben Hernandez is President of EGA Homes; a full service, certified Veteran-owned real estate company based out of Riverside, CA. Ruben is also the founder of The Veterans Housing Alliance (VHA); a nonprofit organization whose mission is to increase the percentage of Veteran home ownership among those who have served our country. Ruben grew up in Rubidoux, CA. He learned his extraordinary work ethic from his parents. Ruben’s mother worked full time, going to school at night to earn her degree in education Following the Vietnam War and subsequent divorce, Ruben’s father worked two, sometimes three jobs to support his children and extended family. While growing up, Ruben’s mother made sure to keep him busy with year round sports, and he learned the value of hard work by contributing to the household with his first job at age 11. Ruben graduated from Rubidoux high school, where he led his school to its first division 1 playoff appearance in its school's history as quarterback. During his senior year, Ruben enlisted in the United States Marine Corps rather than opting to play football in college. Instead, Ruben chose to continue his family’s legacy of service; following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. Mr. Hernandez is a combat Veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He was awarded several medals and awards while on active duty including a Navy Achievement medal for saving a life while stationed in Okinawa Japan. Upon his return from his service, Ruben enrolled in Riverside Community College (RCC), where he earned his Associate of Arts degree before transferring to the University of California at Riverside (UCR) to complete his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. Ruben continued his education, earning a Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) at UCR's A. Gary Anderson school of Management (AGSM). While at UCR, Ruben was a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society, Chicano Student Programs and was selected to be the student commencement speaker at the 1996 graduation ceremony. Ruben then served two consecutive internships in Washington DC for the Vice President of the United States as well as the US Patent and Trademark Office as part of the prestigious Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) internship program. Following his return to California and graduation from AGSM, Ruben was recruited by several fortune 100 companies and selected General Electric as his company of choice. Mr. Hernandez selected GE largely due to then President/CEO Jack Welch's aggressive business philosophy and support of hiring Veterans. Ruben quickly excelled in corporate America, also working for Merck Pharmaceuticals before deciding to put his corporate experience to use as an entrepreneur. Ruben ultimately decided to pursue a career in real estate.
