  • Charles helped me buy a home

We used Charlie to buy a house in July 2019. We had a very short period of time (one week to find a home and the second week to take care of all of the paperwork related to the purchase) in order to find a house and Charlie knew this. On our first morning driving around seeing houses with Charlie, he told us that he would not be able to show us homes for 3 days during our week long home search as he had other clients he needed to assist. I was shocked, but I said “ok, do you have someone else who can let us into the homes in your absence?” He said, “no”. I said, “you knew we came from far away for this house hunting trip and we have a tight timeline and you have no back up for us?” He said, “no, I don’t”. I was flabbergasted, disappointed, frustrated...you name it. I felt trapped and didn’t know that we could change realtors on short notice as I certainly would have. We continued seeing houses that first day, and Charlie said that he could change one of the days to see some homes with us. In the end, the house that we liked a lot had an open house and we told him about the open house and said that we should put a bid on it before the open house (all things that he should have been thinking about, I think). We put a bid thinking that we were the only bidders as he learned that two parties were “hovering”, but not serious. So, we put in a lower than asking bid. And we lost out to another buyer who was not hovering and was serious, after all. The successful buyer attended the open house. We didn’t. We were making our offer during the open house. Those 3 full days not seeing homes during our short house hunting trip and no back up plan of having someone available to open the doors for us made us lose out on our dream house. That was it. No counter offer opportunity, no negotiation. We were so sad. We couldn’t believe that our realtor did not have our best interests at heart during our short house search and he didn’t know that we were bidding against someone...they were not just “hovering”. We would have offered a higher price had we known that we had competition.
