  • Dean helped me buy a home

Dean Selvey was our realtor representing us and the builder of our new home. We wanted to bring our own realtor in but they refused as they said we had already been in to see the model without her. We asked if they would represent our interests in this transaction with the builder and we were guaranteed they would. In the end of my story is all along the build of my house the realtor did nothing to support us and our interests with the builder. We would visit the house weekly during build and act in good faith and submit concerns. If the builder disagreed with the concern Dean did not help. We ended up dealing mostly directly with the builder instead of Dean. But then we finally needed his help and he offered little to none. We were given a notice that we needed to close on our home with less than the 30 day notice as per contract. The house had been approved for appraisal by Dean, without a 13K RV pad and driveway finished, and other items. Dean agreed to our closing date without our approval. We were the ones who had to point out to the builder that when we original signed our contract, I was going to be out of the country for two weeks and we would be happy to close either before or after with 30 days notice. They said not a problem. Then they kept pressuring us to close without finishing the rv gate/pad. In fact the builder even tried to back out of doing it all together. We agreed to get a POA so my husband could close without me there provided the house was finished. So were moving ahead in good faith and trying to get Dean's help with the builder on the RV pad and gate. We had a disagreement with the builder installing our RV facility as not the same as they did on the model. Dean replied that he negotiated with the builder that they will either build it however they please, or we can delete if from our contract. We asked Dean to have the builder fulfill their contract and build it like they did for the model. We also asked how ethical it was for him to just be siding with the builder, and rushing the order the appraisal without our approval and before the RV facilities were complete. Thus having the appraisal done so early it seemed as though they really didn't want to do the RV Facilities as promised ever, and the #1 reason why we bought our home was the RV Facilities on this lot. At this point Dean got his feelings hurt, and said we offended him and refused to do our walkthru to close our home. When is asking your realtor to do their ethical duty a reason to abandon the buyer? Our realtor was happy to collect his commission on our 450K house but unwilling to represent us in any way or help us with any of our issues we are still struggling with the builder on finishing things 1 year after close.

    • Dean and I connected, but did no business

I met Dean at a new home builder community. He talks fast and acts like he knows everything, but after speaking with the builder, it was clear he’s more of a bully than a professional. He pressures people into signing contracts and once you do, you’re stuck. I’d recommend staying away—this felt more like a used car sales tactic than a trusted advisor.
