- Frank listed, but didn't sell, my home
Rude, harassing, threatening, price-gouging landlord. Worst I’ve ever encountered. In every home we’ve leased in the past when the lease term expired things defaulted to a month-to-month tenancy going forward, no problems at all. Well, two months before our lease was set to expire, Frank starts badgering us to sign a new lease, raising the rent by $200 more due to “market conditions” and saying a new lease would be $200 more per month. When we explained we would be moving back to Orange County in the summer after the school year ends and won’t be able to sign a new lease as we’ll only be staying here two more months, he said “month-to-month tenancy is usually higher, so I’ll let you stay at the higher price”. I pointed out to him that homes in our area were currently listed for rent much less than what we were currently paying, there was only one property listed for more and it had an extra bedroom, two more bathrooms, was 500 more square feet, had a jacuzzi, and was a much superior property. So what justifies the extra $200 per month? I then went on to express my overall dissatisfaction with the service we had gotten from his firm – we have always paid our rent on time yet it takes 2-4 weeks for repairs, plumbing issues in the bathtub, sink, etc – even got past due calls and notices from Fidelity home warranty that the owner had let the warranty expire. This house was abandoned and had been sitting vacant with no upkeep when we moved in. The owner bought it all cash sight unseen. She called us two months after we moved in and asked us if she could come by and tour the property she purchased since she had not even seen it yet. We told her there were issues with the property – such as the previous owner had taken down all of the living room window coverings leaving the windows exposed – which backing to a busy street made us uncomfortable at night. We asked her if she would cover them but in the two years we lived there she never did. The drains had never been cleaned out. There were plumbing issues that the plumber told me were not our fault, there was no “blockage” or anything we had done wrong, Frank still nickled and dimed us for an extra $50 claiming we were responsible. Frank is so disorganized he’s called us asking if we deposited the rent into his bank account because he couldn’t tell which rent payment was from which tenant and belonged to which property. Eventually regarding staying there an extra two months we had to go over his head directly to the property owner who of course, seeing our logic and reasoning said it was no problem for us to go month-to-month for two more months. Attempting to displace our family and possibly put us into a hotel for just a couple more months for our son to finish Kindergarten is just an example of how ruthless this guy is. He then went on to harass me by email after normal business hours as late as 9pm at night calling me “angry” every chance he got in an attempt to dominate me and bully me into submission. After threatening to lodge a formal complaint against him if he wouldn’t stop harassing me, I eventually had to block him. Upon vacating the property, he charged us $1,000 for cleaning, including $250 for window cleaning, which was not in the lease. 4 hours of labor to fix a bedroom door. We’ve rented million dollar houses before and have never paid more than $300 for a deep cleaning. Look past the five star reviews he paid for and DON’T DO BUSINESS WITH THIS GUY.
