Rental agency knowingly rented unit without proper working air conditioning I rented the unit at 5196 Beach Dr SE Apt C November 1, 2014. From the day I moved in, the air conditioner did not work properly. There were also other maintenance issues. Phillips Air Conditioning was sent to the unit 3 times in 5 months before Melan Group authorized the repair. In April, when the temperatures increased, the real problem became evident. The air conditioning unit is the wrong size and does not properly condition. Robert from Melan Group has admitted that they were fully aware of this problem. Since April I have been paying over $200 per month for electric for an 800 sq ft apartment. The unit runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, but it remains 80 degrees or more inside at all times. Again, Melan Group has admitted to knowing this would be a problem, but refused to replace the unit. I have asked to be let out of my lease early. I have asked for a reduction in rent to compensate the lack of amenity that was promised. Melan Group has refused to offer any compensation for not providing air conditioning. Now, I am leaving one month early. Melan Group agreed to keep my security deposit in lieu of me paying October's rent. However, when I said that no one could occupy the unit prior to October 31, they will not agree to that. So after living without air conditioning all summer, they have refused to compensate me in any way and now want to take my October's rent, but be able to rent it to someone else at the same time. At this point, I want some sort of compensation. At the very least, I should be let out of the lease one month early and have my security deposit returned to me. On top of the air conditioning, there are 4 other maintenance issues that were reported to Melan Group, but never resolved.
