How the Alabama Transfer Tax is Calculated

Alabama’s transfer tax, known as a Recordation Tax, is calculated at a rate of $0.50 per $500 of the property’s sale price.

For example, if you sold your home for $281,000 (Alabama’s median home price), you could expect to pay $281 in Alabama transfer taxes.

You may also have to pay an additional county or city transfer tax, depending on where your Alabama home is located.
