I grew up in Topeka, KS. As a kid, the family vacations were almost always in Kansas City, where we enjoyed Chiefs and Royals games, Worlds of Fun, and all of the other activities that are only available in a bigger city. At the age of 18, I began a career at the Hallmark Cards factory in Topeka, KS where I worked for 4 years. When I turned 21, I attended a real estate investing seminar and immediately decided to buy rental properties, and sell real estate on the side. The next year, I transferred to Hallmark's headquarters in downtown Kansas City. I realized that my career opportunities would be much greater with Hallmark and my real estate business could also be much better in my favorite vacation city.
