In 1979, young and recently licensed, I hired on with Hofmann Homes to work in the model homes as their second ever salesperson at Discovery Bay. The Hofmann Company had recently purchased Discovery Bay from the original builders. The 72 acre enclosed lake and a few deep water bays were already in place, with perhaps a total of a 100 homes. The Hofmann Company had a vision of a primary home community with families, restaurants, schools and shopping. However, at that time, there were no restaurants or shopping. The nearest gas station was in Brentwood; the nearest food, The Byron Cafe. I eventually moved to a house on the lake here with my family. What fun! We bought a small sail boat, fishing gear, and various rafts and tubes and spent endless hours on the lake. I had never lived on the water before and loved every minute of it.
