- Susan listed, but didn't sell, my home
Probably one of the worst transactions I have encountered since buying real estate.
- Susan and I connected, but did no business
This is NOT how a home buying experience should be. My boyfriend and I are in the market to purchase our first home. We submitted an offer on a home being sold by Mrs. McConkey and was accepted. To start off, we did not get their signatures on a full contract until almost 2 weeks after we signed. As a matter of fact, we never actually received all of the contract documents (HOA/Condo Association paperwork, etc.) by the time we exited our contract. All of that aside, the trouble really started after we had our home inspection and entered repair negotiations. After we submitted our initial repair requests, which included a request to remove mold, Mrs. McConkey contacted us demanding us to remove the word “mold”. Although hesitant, we did agree to this request and submitted a new repair request that eliminated the use of the word “mold”. In response to the new submission, Mrs. McConkey came back with a scathing email stating that we had not complied with her request and stated that she wanted all mention of any organic matter (mold or anything else) removed from the document. She then demanded that we, once again, rewrite our repair request. Our realtor requested that Mrs. McConkey formally respond to our request using the the official protocol, rather than off the record. Mrs. McConkey then provided a generic blank addendum that removed nearly all mentions of using licensed contractors for repairs, as well as, any mention of mold or other similar growths. This new document would also remove the inspection contingency. We responded by saying that we would go with whatever language they wanted to use, but it would have to keep the inspection contingency intact and be written on the initial repair request form. Mrs. McConkey responded to our request by placing the listing back on the market, without our knowledge, while we were still under contract (which I believe is a violation of the online realtor website). We then moved to sign a release-from-contract form to terminate our contract. All in all, Mrs. McConkey was extremely rude to us and my realtor, unwilling to negotiate with us, and, as it seemed to us, trying to hide something about the home. I would NEVER advise someone entering into a deal with this woman.
