Basically I’m not a “review” person. I’ve only posted 3 reviews so far and they’re all 5-star reviews on Yelp. This is the first negative review that I’ve ever written. Daryl Fishbough was our buyer’s agent when we bought our brand new house from the builder. As you know, all new construction information is on the Internet and you don’t really need an agent when you buy directly from the builder. Thus the very first time I spoke with him, I asked why we would need an agent for buying a brand new house. He said that he would give us 1% commission rebate. Then he explained that he would take 2/3 of the commission (e.g. 2% out of 3%) and the buyer would take 1/3 of the commission (e.g. 1% out of 3%). This sounded familiar. – We bought our last house from the builder as well, and our agent at that time did give us commission rebate, and it was a very smooth process based on verbal agreement. Therefore, we hired Daryl as our buyer’s agent. A month had passed after the closing. We heard nothing from Daryl. I sent a friendly reminder by asking if he had received the commission. He just replied that he received the check. Then I asked him about the commission rebate that we had agreed upon. He said that there was no commission rebate to us at all because he received 2% commission instead of 3%. Will the size of the pie affect the 2/3 vs. 1/3 slicing? Not to mention that what we bought was a million-dollar house. Obviously this is an excuse for breaking his promise on commission rebate. It is unprofessional and he is dishonest. People often ask their agent about local referrals when they move to a new area, so did we. However, the only concrete reply we got was a way too expensive pest control company – twice as expensive as the one we found ourselves. He also said he uses a maid, he can ask her but she lives in XXXX, probably too far away from us. Then there is no response. When I checked his maid’s city in Google map, I found actually it is only 15 miles away and 20 minutes drive from our house. How far away it is! This is just a ridiculous excuse for doing nothing. Watch out if you decide to hire Daryl as your agent. Put down everything in writing, as his words are not trust-worthy. We would not hire him again for any real estate services, nor would we recommend him to our friends. There are so many good agents out there, why bother to hire someone that might be problem?
